This is a backup parachute from D-Day, June 6th, 1944. On this historical day many men were prachuted behind enemy lines, while thousands of others stormed the beaches of Normandy, France. This was one of the most important peices of equipment because if a soldiers parachute failed, this was his only hope of survival. After reading about this item I decided to email the person selling it because I wanted to know more about the history behind it. Luckily the seller was kind enough to inform me that the owner of this parachute was his great grand father who, at the end of the war, returned home safely. I chose this item because when I look at it I don't just see an old piece of cloth, I see the story of the man who wore it.Image Source:http://cgi.ebay.com/US-WW2-D-DAY-ERA-AIRBORNE-PARATROOPER-PARACHUTE_W0QQitemZ120691631681QQcategoryZ4721QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp4340.m8QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DMW%26its%3DC%26itu%3DUCC%26otn%3D5%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D7603250965374755333
